SUMMARY:

The increase in the use of digital media, due to social distancing measures caused by the pandemic, is an unprecedented event. Brazilians are in third place among the nationalities that “spend” the most time on the internet, with an average of ten hours per day. Children, in general, do not escape this reality and are, in fact, immersed in the digital world. Approximately 20% of six-year-olds already accessed the internet, however, how they use digital media is still a unknown. The study on the issue demands an analysis of essential variables for a better understanding of the problem, as well as on the possible outcomes developmental. In Brazil, there is a lack of instruments that detail with precisely the use of digital media in different age groups. In this way, the objective general purpose of this dissertation is to carry out the process of translating and transcultural adaptation of the SCREENS Questionnaire (SCREENS-Q) scale for the Brazilian context and to investigate preliminary evidence of validity of this instrument. SCREENS-Q is a parenting and empirically based reporting instrument. Therefore, the first step of the study will consist of (1) translation of the instrument from the source language to the target language, (2) synthesis of translated versions, (3) evaluation of the synthesis by judges experts, (4) assessment of the instrument by the target audience, (5) back translation, and (6) pilot study. In addition, for the second stage, evidence of validity of internal structure from exploratory analysis of graphs, as well as evidence of convergent validity with the Social Skills Inventory, Problems of Behavior and Academic Competence for Children (SSRS-BR). at last, in the end to evaluate the SCREENS-Q in the Brazilian sample, we tried to examine its relationship with sociodemographic variables.
