SUMMARY:

Career Counseling ("CC") is a technical-scientific process designed to support educational and employment transitions at different levels of human development. CC is commonly applied to high school students. However, several studies have proven the usefulness and effectiveness of counseling programs in other contexts. One of the emerging contexts for CC programs focuses on people with disabilities, including deaf people. Deaf people face great challenges in joining the job market and developing their careers. CC for this group still has incipient intervention strategies, thus requiring studies into the effectiveness of models for promoting the establishment of career projects. Career Construction Theory (CCT) is one of the most widely studied theoretical approaches today. However, no studies based on this theory have been found for deaf people, hence the aim of this study. This is an experimental study with a randomized clinical trial without a double blind design with four groups, three of which will be experimental (hearing, oralized deaf and non-oralized deaf) and control (oralized deaf). The CC activities for the experimental groups will be developed in seven weekly meetings divided into 1) initial assessment and pre-test; 2) interventions based on the CCT, and 3) evaluation of the effect of the program and post-test. The control group will attend collective workshops on the inclusion of deaf people in the job market and thematic career areas. The baseline will be made considering that there is no difference between the groups of non-oralized deaf people from both the control and experimental groups. As results, it is expected that the participants in the experimental group will show a result after the intervention that supports the alternative hypotheses. It is expected that there will be a difference in performance between the experimental groups and the control group, in which the performance of the measures shows no difference, which would support the null hypothesis.
