SUMMARY:

Rape is gender-based violence and can be seen as an extension of the social inequalities historically constructed between men and women. Based on the concept of discourse as a form of social practice, the present work aims to investigate and signal some of the discursive mechanisms that promote the practice of rape, since it is a type of violence that is extremely widespread in all cultures. In other words, we seek to understand how raped women see themselves, questioning whether they identify under-representation or whether the system, built so effectively, still maintains the naturalization of symbolic representations, keeping invisible the hegemonic power relations for the women themselves. The corpus is a set of six testimonies of women who have suffered some type of sexual abuse or violence. The choice of material to be analyzed is based on the thematic relevance for the research, so it is not restricted to a single communication vehicle. As a theoretical-methodological basis, we rely mainly on the Social Theory of Discourse (FAIRCLOUGH, 1992/2001) so that a discourse and text analysis could be carried out that recognizes the role of language in structuring power relations in society; to analyze the cohesive networks used in the anaphoric referencing process of rape and that participate in the construction of the image of the raped women, we used Mondada; Dubois (2003) and Koch (2003).
