SUMMARY:

The present research aims to analyze gender and sexuality metaphors in the song lyrics from the album “Pajubá”, by the artist Linn da Quebrada, through a socio-cognitive perspective. In order to investigate whether such metaphors represent a paradigm shift in the way gender is socio-cognitively conceived, the research uses the precepts of the Conceptual Metaphor Theory (LAKOFF; JOHNSON; 2002[1980]). In addition, it makes use of proposals for metaphor studies with a discursive approach, such as the systematic metaphor (CAMERON, 2010; CAMERON et al, 2012) and the metaphorical niche (VEREZA, 2007, 2010, 2012, 2013). The research, of an interdisciplinary nature, combines propositions from metaphor studies with gender studies and queer theory (BUTLER, 2003) pointing to queer language studies (BORBA, 2018; MELO, 2020). The metaphors were identified by the reading method (SARDINHA, 2007), to be later grouped and analyzed. The research revealed that the metaphors presented in the album “Pajubá” corroborate the argument of the queer theory that gender is performative (BUTLER, 2003), also showing the use of such an idea for the creation of new possibilities of being and existing in the world, using language as a tool of resistance.
