“WERE THE DAYS LIKE THAT?” (2017): THE CONSTRUCTION OF MEMORY NARRATIVES ABOUT THE BRAZILIAN MILITARY DICTATORSHIP IN THE SUPERSERIES OF REDE GLOBO
Keywords: military dictatorship - memory - Rede Globo.
This dissertation has the main purpose of analyzing the narrative construction of the fictional superseries “Os dias eram assim” (Alessandra Poggi and Ângela Chaves), whose plot portrays the Brazilian sociopolitical universe between 1970 and 1988, covering the military dictatorship and the process of national redemocratization. Produced and shown by Rede Globo between 2016 and 2017, the superseries is conceived as a historical source situated in a context of production and particular broadcasting, in which, in the midst of the recent national political crisis, memorial disputes about the military dictatorship and its political actors. Thus, in the light of the concepts of "memory" and "representation", as well as from the analysis of the narrative conformation to the melodramatic format, the research seeks to unravel the concept of the work, its constitutive and aesthetic elements and, primarily, the representations of that period. In this sense, the conception of a dictatorship founded on a simplified Manichean perspective of social reality is observed, highlighting in the plot the participation and protagonism of characters from the Brazilian business class in this period of exception, to the detriment of those linked to the military fractions.
