This paper aims to explore the political and cultural content presented in Fred Melo Paiva's chronicles, for the column "Da Arquibancada'' in the Estado de Minas newspaper, between 2011 and 2019 and that allows him to guide political and cultural issues in the media space occupied by football. For that, a survey and analysis of the 350 chronicles referring to the period was carried out. Subsequently, we cataloged the chronicles through the categorization of their themes. When approaching football and politics in his chronicles, the columnist in question outlines, in his texts, criticisms of the current political moment, especially against governments that are not progressive, making his ideological position clear. The narratives mobilize descriptions of events related to the football métier, relating them to political agendas and social issues that permeate Brazilian daily life. We present this study in two chapters, the first chapter on the “athleticity” or identity of the Clube Atlético Mineiro fan. In the second chapter, I present the theme of institutional politics present in the chronicles in order to demonstrate how political issues are reflected and nuanced in Fred Melo Paiva's speech, showing his ideology while talking about football. The first chapter was concluded with the identification of the chronicler author's identity traits, exemplified in his chronicles that well reflect the influence of these many identities and the social context in his way of writing. Thus, characteristics of athleticism were perceived as the main mark of the author's discursive strategy, based on club-like membership, which allows him to express his opinion about a collective feeling that he lives in his experience of cheering.
