BETWEEN HISTORY AND BIOGRAPHY: analysis from the biographies written by Alfredo Ellis Jr.
Historiography, biography, Alfredo Ellis Jr.
It seeks to analyze how the methodology used by Alfredo Ellis Jr. throughout his productions as a historian, structured and resignified the biographies produced by him. How family memory intends and is also intended by certain interpretive matrices that organize the epistemology of Ellisian history. Specifically, it seeks to relate how the parental biographies produced by the author corroborate the “bandeirante rhetoric”. Investigate how the works of Ellis Jr. sought a parallel between the pioneering spirit of São Paulo coffee production with the march to the West of the United States, contributing to an identity vision of São Paulo as the South American Yankee. In the direction of the research, there is the pursuit of the “small x” elaborated by Gustav Droysen, that is, understanding the role of individuals in the unfolding of historical events in the writing of Ellis Jr.
