SUMMARY:

This work sought to analyze the formation of the Brazilian "libertarian movement", which is the
systematic appropriation of intellectuals affiliated with the Austrian School of Economics. In turn, the
EAE continues to be the most radicalized strand of ultraliberalism, and its wide insertion in the national
context marks the beginnings of the phenomenon of the new right, amidst the slow and gradual process of
redemocratization. We can say that the libertarian movement became visible in the first decade of the
2000s, mainly through online mobilizations. In view of this, the research is divided into three central axes.
The first is an exposition that aims to elucidate the multiplicity of arguments and agendas dealt with by
EAE intellectuals, in which we highlight both their theoretical contributions and their actions in the
political sphere. Given this clarification, we return to the Brazilian context, in which we deal with the
phenomenon of the new right and its main vectors: think tanks and right-wing intellectuals. We focus on
the first specific libertarian mobilizations to appear on the Brazilian internet, dealing as a source with the
Liberal Institute, the Institute of Business Studies and the blogs "O Indivíduo" and "Austríaco". Finally,
we focused on the mobilizations that took place through the social network Orkut, in which we analyzed 8
communities, seeking to understand how the "libertarian" cosmos was constituted, how they proposed
their organization for the dissemination of ideas that would later become the Instituto Mises Brasil, the
Partido Libertário and Students for Liberty Brasil.
