THE PATRIMONIALIST STATE AND BELO-HORIZONTINO FOOTBALL:
The government incentive for Belo Horizonte football clubs between 1904 and 1950
Football and politics, patrimonialism, Belo Horizonte football, Belo Horizonte.
The present work aims to understand and analyze the incentive that the government has given to spectacular football in Belo Horizonte since its emergence, in 1904, until 1950. Political relations with football are undeniable. The Belo Horizonte elite was enchanted by the sport and brought it closer to the public authorities. The use of the theoretical discussion on patrimonialism sheds light on the understanding of the relationships established between the interested groups and the perceived benefits to football clubs. For the analysis, documentation related to financial exchanges is used, as well as donations of land, leasing, improvement in stadium construction and discussions and renegotiation of the clubs' debts with the government.
