  • The text that is constructed here is intended to present some reflections regarding the possibilities of teaching philosophy to and with children. The systematization of philosophy for children emerged in the mid-60s, thought by the American philosopher Matthew Lipman and his collaborators. The idea arrived in Brazil in the 1980s and is gaining form and space within the institutions. The philosophy for children, thought by Lipman, has specific characteristics and the systematization of the program generates several discussions across the globe, instigating reflection on the theme and presenting possibilities for philosophical experiences with children. Walter Kohan, offers us new perspectives for thinking about philosophical practice, considering essential elements for the meaningful construction of reflective thinking. To help us with the reflections on the theme, we will use the philosophical experiences promoted by the Laboratory of Education in Philosophy (LAFIL) of the Federal University of São João del-Rei (UFSJ), existing since 2003. This laboratory thinks and studies the possibilities of teaching of philosophy using the contributions of the aforementioned authors. In this way, there is the possibility of developing philosophy activities with children through the Extension Program, of this laboratory, entitled “Philosophical Research Community in Elementary Education. This project promotes philosophical experiences for the early years of some public schools in the city of São João del-Rei, through weekly classes, in order to develop critical and creative reflection from an early age. After the presentation of LAFIL and its theoretical bases, we will seek to build a dialogue between the proposed philosophy for / with children, the perception of the managers of partner schools through interviews and the analysis of LAFIL reports, in recent years.
