Axel Honneth, contemporary philosopher, talks about the importance of recognizing the other, that is, the importance of recognizing the rights and needs of the other. The philosopher presents three spheres (love, law and solidarity) as a guarantee of this recognition. If one of the spheres is denied, recognition of the other is also not effective and personal identity is compromised. Thus, Honneth believes that recognition is intersubjective, the person needs to recognize themselves and, at the same time, be recognized through the spheres. By having this effective recognition the personal identity is formed. However, the denial of recognition, in any sphere, motivates a conflicting struggle, the struggle for recognition. The fight is born because this search for recognition of the other is not easy. When the individual recognizes himself, he seeks to guarantee his rights. However, the other does not always want to undo his privileges in order to recognize him. It is known that we live in a society marked by inequalities. In the area of education it is no different, there are several realities within a school. During the COVID-19 pandemic, these inequalities present in education became even more evident. Therefore, we sought to answer the following research questions: Axel Honneth's recognition spheres are observed in the discourse of basic education teachers regarding the type of remote teaching proposed by the Minas Gerais State Department of Education during the quarantine caused by the new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2)? What kind/s of recognition is revealed and which is/are denied? The hypothesis is that, given the difficulties experienced during this turbulent period of Brazilian education, we will be able to see the presence and/or denial of the spheres in the reality experienced by these teachers. For this, we first present what Axel Honneth's theory of recognition is, how he formulated the spheres and what the struggle for recognition is. Understanding then the Honnethian theory, we present the speeches of two public school teachers in Minas Gerais enunciated during a listening moment that took place in our research group in 2020, and the spheres of recognition observed. The results pointed to the realization of the solidarity sphere by the teachers with the students' families. At the same time, they were not recognized in the legal sphere (law) by the school system to which they belong and in the sphere of solidarity on the part of other people in society.
