SUMMARY:

The low level of phosphorus (P) available in the soil is one of the greatest limitations to grain production. Phosphate fertilization has low efficiency due to the fact that a large part of the added P becomes immobile or unavailable. Plants are not always efficient in absorbing these nutrients, therefore the most pronounced subject today is the use of bioinoculants that help absorb nutrients from the soil in a beneficial way.  The objective of this work was to evaluate and select experimental maize hybrids that have satisfactory agronomic performance, in two levels of phosphate fertilization and interaction with phosphate solubilizing microorganisms. The experiments were conducted in two consecutive years in the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 harvests. In each agricultural year, four trials were carried out, in each trial 36 corn hybrids were evaluated in two areas characterized by soil fertility and planting fertilization: area with complete planting fertilization and; planting area without phosphorus fertilization, considering only the natural fertility of the soil. In each area, there was a division in relation to seed treatment, which comprises two distinct conditions, namely: without seed inoculation and; seed inoculation with phosphate solubilizing microorganisms. The experimental design used was the 6x6 square lattice with two replications, plots composed of two rows and planting carried out mechanized using a plot planter, in the no-tillage system. The characteristics analyzed were productivity, grain moisture, female flowering, male flowering, stand, lodging and breakage, average plant height, average height of ear insertion, weight of ear with straw, weight of ear without straw, number of rows of kernels, ear diameter, cob diameter, ear length and 100 grain weight. Data from each year were submitted to joint analysis of variance, evaluating the experiments and the genotype x assay interaction. Performed the analysis of grouping of means by the Scott-Knott test, correlation between the characteristics, the direct and indirect effects of the evaluated characteristics on the productivity via path analysis and finally the selection gains. There was a significant effect for the source of variation genotype and assay in the two years of planting. For the genotype x assay interaction, there was no significant effect for the first year, however, it showed a significant interaction for the second year of planting. Genotype 1Q2425 and genotypes 1Q2366, 1R2536 and 1Q245 were the most responsive to yield, respectively, first and second year. In addition, they showed better behavior in relation to the variable lodging and plant breakage. However, other characteristics can directly interfere with grain production.
