SUMMARY:

Chronic non-communicable diseases are the main causes of death worldwide. The main ones are: cardiovascular, ischemic, neoplasms, chronic respiratory diseases and diabetes mellitus. Cancer is one of the main diseases that affect populations worldwide, with an estimated 21.4 million new cases and 13.2 million deaths by 2030. The need to care with cancer patients has never been more imminent and urgent, indicating the need to plan and manage programs to monitor cancer care. Cancer is a differentiated disease from other chronic illnesses due to the fact that it can cause deformities, pain and mutilation, also bringing great psychological impact and change in the quality of life. As a reflection of this impact, negative feelings observed from the moment of diagnosis to treatment are cited. Such feelings are associated with various adverse reactions, from the pathology itself or from the proposed treatment, including dermatological complications such as hand-foot syndrome. Often, the therapeutic focus is restricted only to the disease, with the management of the patient's dermatological and selfimage effects in the background. This conduct can compromise the treatment evolution, leading the patient to have a decrease in his self-esteem and less treatment adherence. Methodology: A systematic literature review was carried out in five different databases: Scopus, Web of Science, Science Direct, Pubmed and Virtual Health Library (VHL). Different Mesh descriptors were combined using a Boolean operator. The search and preparation of this review followed the guidelines proposed by the PRISMA recommendation. Results: 19 articles were selected, which were analyzed for dissertation writing. Conclusion: The results of this review pointed out that the hand-foot syndrome implies impairment in the cancer treatment and impaired patients' quality of life. Therefore, we conclude that there are many ways to get around the hand-foot syndrome symptoms with cosmetics use; however, it is necessary that further studies are carried out in the area in order to actually circumvent the syndrome without interrupting chemotherapy.
