SUMMARY:

Introduction: In Brazil, since the 1980s, there has been a significant increase in homicides, approximately 10% of all homicides in the world. Violence is one of the main world public health problems, with homicide being a more serious expression of this. Homicides represent the growth of violence, caused by social inequalities, smuggling and possession of firearms, consumption of illicit drugs and drug trafficking due to disputes and debt collection. Therefore, it was assumed that crimes related to drug consumption and/or trafficking increase the risk of the detained individual committing a homicide or being a victim of this crime. Objectives: Assess the risk of wanting to apprehend for drug use and/or trafficking of committing homicide or being a victim of this crime, analyzing the profile of the individual apprehended for trafficking and/or use of marijuana, cocaine/crack, describing the illicit drug apprehended and identifying the rates of illegal drug trade in the cities of Divinópolis, Itaúna, Itatiaiuçu, Carmo do Cajuru and Cláudio. Methodology: This is a retrospective observational cohort study on a documentary basis from January 2017 to December 2019. Data were collected at the 1st Regional Civil Police Division / 7th Civil Police Department and at the Regional Technical Criminalistics Session of Divinopolis. Data processing and storage were performed in a database, developed in the QDS ™ Version 2.6.1 software and Microsoft Office Excel, to characterize the epidemiological profile of the studied population, descriptive statistical analysis of the variables was performed. This project was approved by the Research Ethics Committee involving human beings (CAAE: 30655120.3.0000.5545). Results: 3,994 of the 14,984 required documents were selected. Divinópolis has the highest rate of records (63.32%), and marijuana is the most common drug found in this study (64.52%), with the “bucha” form being the most common (50.37%). 5,939 visitors were identified in drug trafficking and/or consumption, being 90.72% male, with a higher frequency in the 20 to 29 age group in both sexes (40.70% men and 39.20% women). 198 homicides were identified where they occurred with drugs, 77.27% were male who were the perpetrators of the crime and 18.69% were killed. Conclusion: Divinópolis has the highest rate of drug seizures in the region, with marijuana being the most learned drug, following national and world standards. Young males prevail as much in drug trafficking and/or consumption as in homicides.
