Head and neck cancer (CCP) and its therapeutic modalities have a strong impact on the functionality of patients, in addition this patients have to lead with situations of stress, depression and difficulties in accepting body image. All these factors act on the patient's loss of self-esteem and social isolation, causing limitations in daily activities and quality of life. Assessing bodily deficiencies, activity limitations and participation restrictions, as recommended by the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF), is extremely important. The objective of the present study included the translation and crosscultural adaptation, into Brazilian Portuguese, of a functional assessment instrument for patients with CCP (IAFCCP-br) based on the ICF. It is a methodological study, developed in four stages: translation, synthesis, back-translation and review by an expert committee. In the translation, three discrepancies were identified between the translators, which were resolved in the synthesis phase of the translations. The two back-translations confirmed that the Portuguese version accurately reflected the content of the original version. In content validation, the mean agreement between evaluators was greater than 80% in all items of the instrument. The IAFCCP-br is now translated and adapted to Brazilian Portuguese, showing satisfactory results in the translation process, cross-cultural adaptation and content validity.
