SUMMARY:

The following work consists of an elaboration of a territorial formation analysis of the Emboabas’s district under an epistemological-geographical perspective, on identifying nuances of a relative territoriality of the Onça community, comprised by the inhabitants of Vila de São Francisco de Assis do Onça, located on São João del Rei county, MG. Matters like the geohistorical neglect and the forgotten condition with which the Brazilian district scales are conceptualized and dealt with by the public power, brings with them territorial precariousness and the epistemicide of their knowledge and local practices as instrumentalized processes on the hegemonic power consecration. From the hypothesis that these theoretical-conceptual and practical-political-normatives negligences are intimately connected to the substantive conceptions of territory, verb in the infinitive that operates on the neutralization of the power relations, the proposed discussion brings attention to the narrative, speeches and cognitive cases that protagonize, transform and reify the different uses and meanings of the investigated space. Through a double-criticism that answers a borderline thought that transits between the epistemological abysses of modernity/coloniality, there is a search for an analytical positioning of the construction of a mundane theory, that follows the dilemmas and transformations of the contemporary society without letting go of the rigorous cientific thought, but let itself be filled with knowledges and practices situated on the world. On the Emboabas’s case, problematics of symbolical and material orders, like the populational aging, the land lease and promotion of corporate agroindustry, converge on the erasure of collective memory and the local toponym in favor of rationalization and national patrimonialization of the Brazilian territory, as well as capitalist exploitation and expropriation. Since hybridity shows as a strong territorial element of Emboabas, it is also necessary to make a theoretical-operational effort to overcome dichotomous conceptions such as Society/Nature, Theory/Practice, Space/Time, Urban/Rural. Despite the panoptic effects that accompany and accumulate over the last three centuries of Emboabas, it is possible to verify the political protagonism, albeit subaltern, of its local community. This is evidenced both in the re-appropriation of eco-technical-cultural mechanisms of the conditions of reproduction of the hegemonic power, as revealed by the practices of co-operation and solidarity built under the structures of ecclesiastical order of Minas Gerais in the 17th century, as in other social-metabolic relations that make possible the construction of a territoriality with strong local bases of reproduction. It is hoped that the text serves as an instrument to denounce the territorial precariousness of the Onça community, as well as draw the attention of the scientific community to the relevance and complexity of case studies such as this one.
