SUMMARY:

Water is a determining agent for life on Earth and for human civilization, having as an important phenomenon the processes of meteorological mandatory for the modulation of the climate. Thus, this study focuses on the analysis and spatial and temporal characterization of the behavior of rainfall in the southern region of the state of Bahia, and its relationship with the forms of relief in the period from 1989 to 2018. The 30-year interval as a cutout Spatial was defined based on the recommendation of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), for studies of climatic constituents. Data from eighteen pluviometric stations, made available through the HidroWeb portal of the National Water Agency (ANA), and data provided by the Climate Hazards Group InfraRed Precipitation with Station (CHIRPS) platform are being used. The pluviometric stations were selected, among others, present in the study area, because they have the best data collection. The relief data were obtained through the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) with images extracted from the Earth Explorer of the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The satellite images were processed using the Qgis 3.10 software, also using shapefiles from the cartographic base of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) in 2019. The same software was used in the making of the interpolated maps of the surface stations, generating averages monthly and yearly for the analyzed time frame. Among the preliminary results obtained during a research, the use of the CHIRPS tool was disclosed, from the comparison of the values measured with the values of the surface stations. Regarding the spatial distribution of rainfall in the region, high spatial variability was noted, with the presence of marked values to the north of the study area, with an average annual inclusion of 2034 mm, found at Valença station. And lower average values, of 762 mm, in Itajú da Colônia. From one decade analyzed to another, a reduction in average rainfall values of about 100 mm was observed. The analyzes and success are still in progress and will be complemented and seen in the final version of the master's dissertation.
