SUMMARY:

This research focuses on the Tina Martins Reference House in Belo Horizonte, which acts as a collective space for welcoming and sheltering women in situations of violence and which originated and was consolidated from an urban occupation carried out by the women's social movement. Olga Benário. Such women, who were already articulated in other social movements of urban struggle for housing and for a dignified life, saw the need to build their own movement of women, in the search to conquer the specific demands presented at that moment by the working women present in the militancy spaces and occupation by housing, and which represent the demands of many. In the development of the actions of this movement centered on the social transformation of the structures that undermine the emancipation of women, and which, however, proposes itself in this path to deal directly with the transformations of daily dimension that women need, there was a clear urgency to bring the alarming issue of violence against women. In turn, the finding about the insufficiencies of policies to combat such violence mobilized them to seek both to tension the structures of the State and to claim rights within the structure itself, and, in addition, to carry out actions themselves that would effectively change life of women from the creation of the Reference House where women take care of women. In search, therefore, of what it takes to dismantle gender hierarchies, the patriarchal-capitalist and racist logic that make up the origins of the violence to which women are subjected, as well as what it takes for a woman who has been raped to protect herself. and transforming your life, the struggle for space is necessary. Throughout the experience of building Casa Tina Martins, it became necessary to occupy and appropriate an urban space where the meeting, collective dialogue, political formation and resistance. The construction of a collective space in the city that welcomes, guides, shelters and transforms the lives of women proved essential. And the struggle for housing remained indispensable. Socio-spatial injustice and non-access to housing is one of the factors that make it impossible to leave the home where they live with their aggressors for most women in situations of domestic violence, as well as where to go is a preponderant question that in the passage of women welcomed at Tina. It is a fact that many of the women organized in occupations and housing claims seek to free themselves from a situation of domestic violence and could not do so without their own space to live. In the meantime, there is a struggle for women's lives, for dignified life, for the transformation of everyday life and for the right of women to the city. In this sense, from bibliographic reviews, from participant observation, and from the compilation of information obtained in interviews, we seek to investigate: How the Right to the city in its broad perspective, presents itself as an essential part of what enables the emancipation of women and the end of situations of violence that imprison them? What is the potential of the feminist struggle articulated with the movements of urban struggles for housing? Does the action of Casa Tina Martins present itself as a path to an urban praxis of daily transformation of the structures of social oppression linked to gender, race and class?
