SUMMARY:

The transformations in the Brazilian agrarian space, modified the land use relations, creating new functionalities for the rural environment. These transformations began after the 1960s with the Green Revolution that modernized the countryside, changing the way of production, changing the relations of the countryside and industries, a process that intensified with the creation of neoliberal policies in the 1990s, strengthening agribusiness and the production of commodities. This process has affected and continues to affect the permanence of rural producers, due to the difficulties of entering the market, which has left the countryside. Rural exodus has been the reality in most Brazilian regions, where the degree of urbanization in the country exceeds 80%, since agricultural modernization and land concentration have made it difficult for people to remain in the countryside, especially living off agricultural activities. These transformations have mainly affected rural youth, who migrate in search of new opportunities and jobs in urban spaces and are the main responsible for rural depopulation, motivated by several factors. The absence of rural youth has compromised generational succession and the social reproduction of family farming in the countryside. The relationships they face in rural spaces are the same ones that compromise their permanence or departure from the countryside. There are several studies that investigate the exit of young people in the countryside, but it is necessary to understand factors that can influence the permanence of young people, as in the case of COOPFAM members, in the municipality of Poço Fundo-MG, who have an important influence on coffee production, especially in production organic production that is important for the permanence of producers in the field, with low-cost production and valorization of the final product. Therefore, the research aims to investigate the factors that influence the permanence and generational succession of organic coffee producers, such as income and the cooperative can influence the succession of these young people.
