Scientometric analysis of studies with environmental enrichment for the order Psitaciformes and elaboration of an ethogram for the species
Environmental enrichment, Welfare, Parrots, Ethogram
Environmental enrichment is an important tool to make the captive
environment more interactive for animals, this technique aims to reduce the frequency of
abnormal and stereotyped behaviors. Since deficient captives can encourage such behaviors.
The order Psittaciformes in zoos in Brazil has been the most studied order, with 7.41% of the
studies, in addition to being animals sold to become pets. Bearing in mind that they are a
representative group of captive environments, one of the objectives of the present study is to
carry out scientometric analyzes of the panorama of studies on the theme “environmental
enrichment” for the order Psittaciformes. Since many works use ethograms to evaluate the set
of behavioral behavior, the second objective of this work is to elaborate an ethogram for parrot
species, serving as a tool for future researchers.
