SUMMARY:

Nowadays the use of dyes by industries has increased significantly, making it one of the most serious environmental problems. Among the dyes, methylene blue is one of the most used as a pigment in textile industries, paper  and temporary hair colorants.The removal of industrial effluents is one of the challenges currently encounted, since conventional treatments are often not efficient. In this context, adsorption has been highlighted due its efficient, simplicity of application and it has low cost. Thus, this work evaluated the adsorptive capacity of methylene blue cationic dye onto recycled cathode from Li-ion batteries. Different conditions were studied, such as the use of the cathode strip subjected to heat treatment at different temperatures, as well as the dye solution at different temperatures and pH',s. The cathode strip was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction and thermal analysis. The adsorption was studied by UV-vis spectroscopy where the scanning analysis together with the FTIR showed the selective adsorption of dimers, monomers and H-aggregates.With the results obtained, the studied adsorbent proved to be efficient in the adsorption of the dye, opening a perspective of application of this process in other areas. In addition, the work developed so far has shown to be promising in order to minimize environmental pollution since it removes inappropriately discarded batteries from landfills, in addition to contributing to the study of effluent treatment.
