MATURITY IN PROJECT MANAGEMENT: STUDY IN A HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION IN MINAS GERAIS
Public Projects, Project Management Maturity, Public administration
Since the 1990s, the public sector has sought to implement management tools used in the private sector to improve the provision of its services. Project management tools are widely used as they enable the optimization of good practices to achieve institutional goals. Studies show that it is possible to identify the level of maturity in project management in organizations using a maturity model. In this sense, the aim of this research was to evaluate the level of maturity in project management at the Federal University of São João del-Rei, from the application of the questionnaire proposed in the Maturity Model in Project Management | Prado-MMGP. The research can be classified as descriptive with a combination of qualitative and quantitative techniques. The Prado-MMGP model was chosen because it is considered simple, easy to apply and because it allows the comparison of results obtained with other institutions in the country. The sectors participating in the research were PROGP, PROAE, DPLAG, DIMAP, DIPRE, DIPAP and NTINF, which reached a final maturity grade between 1 and 3.16 points. The average value of the institution's final maturity assessment was 2.22, which corresponds to a weak maturity rate. Considering the results achieved, improvement actions were proposed, so that, the institution can grow in maturity in project management.
