THE UNIVERSITY LIBRARY AND DISTANCE HIGHER EDUCATION AT THE FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF SÃO JOÃO DEL-REI
Public administration; University Library; distance education
It is expected that university libraries are one of the main pedagogical support equipment for teachers and students in the teaching and learning process. The growth of Distance Education (EaD) challenges the BU to provide quality service and meet the needs of EaD students, who have a different profile from the on-site modality students. Given the above, this research aims to verify how the university library of the Federal University of São João del-Rei has acted as an information provider for the academic community in favor of access and use of information in distance education and to analyze the adequacy products and services offered in relation to the informational needs of students in this modality. Thus, a descriptive and exploratory research will be carried out based on a semi-structured interview with the manager of the Distance Education Center in order to contextualize the history and perspective of distance education in the institution. Then a questionnaire will be applied to active and alumni students in order to qualitatively discuss the role of the library as a support infrastructure for Ead and identify possible needs for creating information services or adapting existing services. Data analysis will be done from the statistical tabulation of data.
