Clowns; Genre; Clown Birota
This research project has as object the following clowns: Palhaça Birota and Palhaça Tinoca. Therefore, this research seeks to highlight the expression of these clown women who occupy spaces, functions, professions that for a long time were primarily male, showing their relevance in the artistic, political, social and cultural milieu. Although few references are made to women who practiced the clown trade, this negligence does not mean that they do not exist.
Actress, director and clown, Mariana Gabriel, is part of her family's fourth generation of circus. She plays the clown Birota along with the screenings of the documentary: “My grandmother was a clown”, in which she tells the story of her grandmother Maria Eliza and her performances as a clown Xamego, in the beginning of the 20th century.
