TITLE:
EXPORTS AND GOVERNANCE: THE ROLE OF PUBLIC AND PRIVATE STANDARDIZATION REQUIREMENTS IN THE LIVE ANIMALS TRADE

KEY WORDS:
Institutional Quality; GLOBALGAP; International Standardization.

PAGES: 65
BIG AREA: Ciências Sociais Aplicadas
AREA: Economia
SUMMARY:
Recent literature highlights the factors responsible for boosting economic growth, identifying the reason for differences in these conditions in different countries, which is the quality of the institutional environment of each one. Despite the economic literature analyzing the distance of the quality of institutions as an inhibitor of trade between countries, the solution to expand trade has not yet received much attention, especially for exports of live animals. In this way, this study will seek to identify the effect of public and private standardization requirements on the trade of live animals between countries with institutional differences, under the hypothesis that standardization will reduce the effect of distance, helping sustainable economic growth, especially in countries under development. To test the hypothesis, a gravitational equation will be estimated by the non-linear method Poisson Pseudo-Maximum-Likelihood-PPML, seeking to circumvent zero flows in the sample and the presence of heteroscedasticity.
