AREA: Filosofia
SUMMARY:

This essay seeks to address the thinking of political theorist Hannah Arendt when intending to research violence in a phenomenological sense in active life. As a theoretical framework, the work On Violence, published in the 1970s, is used. To clarify and demystify the terms, Arendt explains to readers how “power” and “violence” are etymologically different. While power concerns the human capacity to coexist and actively participate in political issues, violence, according to the author, is configured as an instrument that needs, to be within the political sphere, to be controlled and limited. This is the question in vogue: power and violence can appear together in apparent space, but they are not identical terms, but are, on the other hand, antithetical. Hannah Arendt proposes to examine the terms in a philosophical sense and, although she differentiates them, she understands that there is necessary violence, typical of labor and work, and revolutionary violence, a tool that permeates the public sphere with the purpose of rebuilding power illegitimate. Therefore, revolutionary violence seeks, through presence and mutual action, to restore power and make it legitimate by combining action and speech. As a proposal to limit violence, amor mundi supports plurality and life together in line with education in a private space, being an artifice that goes beyond Human Rights in a strictly political sense.
