MOTIVATIONS AND BARRIERS OF THE PATENT PROCESS IN BRAZIL: PERCEPTIONS OF THE RESEARCHERS OF THE FEDERAL MINEIRAS UNIVERSITIES

The main objective of this research is to analyze the performance of Federal Universities of the State of Minas Gerais in terms of patent applications in the period from 2015 to 2019, identifying the motivations that lead their researchers to patent in Brazil and the main barriers encountered. As specific objectives, it seeks to analyze the indicators of patent applications requested by the Federal Universities of the State of Minas Gerais, along with the patent databases in the period 2000 to 2019, in addition to verifying whether the analyzed institutions in Minas Gerais have benefited from the Plan of Combating the Patent Backlog and with the Priority Procedures modality. To this end, a descriptive research will be carried out, combining qualitative and quantitative approaches, where the following procedures will be used: bibliographical research; documentary research and survey research through a questionnaire. The context of the study is directed to some federal universities belonging to the State of Minas Gerais, and the target population will be researchers who have patent registration belonging to the four federal universities in Minas Gerais that most filed patents in the years 2015 to 2019, which namely: UFMG, UFSJ, UFU and UFV. The estimated sample is around 234 respondents.
